Modartt releases a Grimaldi harpsichord add-on and Pianoteq 2.3

Modartt has released Pianoteq 2.3, a free upgrade, with improved reverberation.

Modartt also continue on their physically modeled piano add-ons to Pianoteq. The latest is a copy of a harpsichord by Grimaldi dating from 1697, copiedby Andrew Wooderson (Bexley, 2007).

From the Modartt press release:

Typical of a short-scaled Italian instrument it has a crispness of attack and transparency of tone that makes it ideal for continuo use, and is also well suited to 17th and 18th Century Italian and German solo repertoire. Its two registers can be played separately or combined together. The Grimaldi harpsichord is part of the KIViR project with the aim tocreate virtual copies of historical keyboard instruments.

As always it’s available for free to customers of Pianoteq.

Pianoteq 2.2 released

New features in short:

  • new preset ‘C2 chamber’, providing a closer intimate ambiance and clarity, following wishes that we received from users; audio demo. [that cat can play on my blues songs any day!]
  • added resonances for ‘dry’ notes (without sustain pedal), particularly noticeable when playing staccato chords (’C2 chamber’ and ‘C2 concert’)
  • improvement of space location for harp and sympathetic resonances
  • slightly re-voiced ‘C2 concert’ for better transparency

The upgrade is offered for free to all customers. A trial version is also available.

Pianoteq claims that multi-sampled pianos aren’t true to the pianos character and that a true-to-the-source emulation would have to be created in another way. Thankfully they have done that, let’s see if they can convince me.
