Already time for AES again! Man, time flies. Unfortunately I won’t be attending it this year. The worst part about that isn’t necessarily that I can’t go around molesting the latest gear, but that I’ll miss all the kickass parties I’ve been invited to! Oh well. I’ll of course do my best to cover the news, and hopefully some friendly dude or dudette will supply me with some floor footage as well (if you’re going and is interested, let me know).
In the meantime, here are some of the AES news that have dropped into my mailbox over the last few weeks.

Blue wants you to buy their microphones so badly they’ll pay you. Purchase a Dragonfly microphone between July 1st and August 31, 2008, from an authorized Blue retailer within the US and Canada and you’ll be eligible to receive a $200 rebate from Blue. The offer is additive, so if you purchase two you’ll get $400 cash back.

Both the Phanthera and the Phantom Classic microphones from microphone manufacturer Brauner Microphones are now available in a package that is supposedly much more budget friendly. The basic-editions can be upgraded at any time to the full versions with an optional upgrade kit.

Hm… Suddenly I have the urge to buy a Røde mic. I wonder why…

The capsule and manufacturing are being controlled by sE, whilst the electronics, and of course the transformer, are being taken care of by Mr. Neve.

I came across this one:
“In looking at the professional audio market in general and the microphone market specifically, we realized there are very few specialized instruments for female performers,†explained Stefan Gubi, President of AKG. “We wanted to design a high-performance microphone fine-tuned for the needs of a female vocalist both in terms of sound quality and physical appearance. The result of a detailed market research project, the Elle C delivers a technologically-advanced microphone solution to a largely unaddressed, yet vast marketplace of female vocalists.â€
I just have to ask, are the other microphones made for men?
Nothing against Nady at all but I’m more than a little skeptic when someone announces a “pro” USB microphone. My prejudices could be all wrong though.
