One of the great things about trade fairs like these are that you can actually grab the faders on a lot of things that you’ll never be able to afford yourself. Here are some of the consoles I enjoyed playing with. Read more →
NAMM is over! Thank goodness! These times are crazy, it’s like Musikmesse ‘07 all over again. You better have appreciated the news feed coming from ProTooler during NAMM because I posted like a white punk on dope! I think there were something along the lines of 35 updates on day one alone. Crazy, crazy I tell you. But what was the quality on the new products announced there? Read more →
Here’s a video of the new Euphonix controllers that I found. It’s from SOS.
Does it look good? Yeah, it does. Will it be a Mackie-killer? Most likely. Is it optimal for Pro Tools? I bet not. Actually, from the looks of this video it doesn’t do much more than a 003 control-wise. There seems to be a couple of additional features (”layouts” seems like a very good idea) but there could also be a lot missing that isn’t on the LE surfaces. Also remember that this is showing it running with EuCon, for Pro Tools it would have to be as emulating HUI.
I think we at least can conclude that the parallels some have drawn to ICON is way off. You’ll still have to go into a way more expensive Euphonix territory for that. I still think Euphonix is sitting on a potential gold mine here, and I can’t wait to try it, both with Pro Tools and EuCon hosts.
As I’m sure you know, NAMM starts soon. NAMM is a place to present new products, and I will of course do my best to report about what’s going on there. So what will be there? I’ve heard about a lot of new basses and guitars (yeah, like that was a surprise!) but as you know I don’t really write much about those kind of instruments here. Here are some of the things that I’ve gathered from around the web, and got told about in emails and press releases that have been sent to me. Read more →
Euphonix have for a while hinted about an ‘Artist series’ of controllers, something that have made many hope for an actual affordable controller from the high-end company. It seems like we through Sweetwater actually have gotten a sneak peak of it! The two products are called MC Control (at Sweetwater) and MC Mix (at Sweetwater). And guess what? They actually look pretty affordable! Read more →
Euphonix and Apogee Electronics today announced a partnership to integrate Apogee’s converters with Euphonix control surfaces through the EuCon control protocol.
By adding EuCon control to Maestro all Euphonix consoles and controllers will be able to bring up and control the Apogee range of converters from their control surfaces over high-speed Ethernet. This also includes controlling the Maestro mixer from the Euphonix channel strips, which is used for low latency monitoring and will make monitor mixing much faster and simpler.
