Massenburg DesignWorks release MDW Hi-Res Parametric EQ 3.0

One of the more popular EQs on the Pro Tools market, the Massenburg DesignWorks MDW, has been updated to version 3. The man behind it is of course George Massenburg, the inventor of the original parametric EQ. The MDW has a very wide frequency setting ranging from 10 Hz to 41 kHz, with variable Q and choice of three- or five-band EQ.

The price is $795 for TDM/RTAS version, and $395 for RTAS version.

Upgrade offer

With the release of 2.2, MDW and Digidesign (which is the distributor) was faced by an angry mob of TDM users who felt that they should get the 2.2 RTAS version for free. With version 3, if you already own a previous version of MDW you can upgrade to version 3 for a lower price.

Upgrade from MDW EQ 1.x or 2.x (TDM) to MDW EQ 3.0 (TDM/RTAS) for $145
Upgrade from MDW EQ 2.2 (RTAS) to MDW EQ 3.0 (TDM/RTAS) for $345
Upgrade from MDW EQ 3.0 (RTAS) to MDW EQ 3.0 (TDM/RTAS) for $545

Abbey Road releases Brilliance pack

A new set of Abbey Road plug-ins are available in the ‘Brilliance pack’. The plug-ins included emulates the RS127 (box and rack) and RS135 ‘presence’ EQs, which - according to the creators of the plug-ins - were key components of the Abbey Road sound during the ’60s and used on countless famous recordings.

The plug-ins are compatible with Mac and Windows systems and are provided in TDM, RTAS, AU and VST and can be bought directly from their website for $199.

Waves JJP collection

Are we entering a new era in bundles, one were the companies begin to emulate specific peoples collections? Waves has decided to emulate some of Jack Joseph Puig’s (Green Day, Black Eyed Peas and other of today MTV dudes and dudettes) favorite(?) gear, a Fairchild 670, a Pultec EQP-1A and a Pultec MEQ-5.

Price is $800 for Native and more info is available here on Waves website.

Flux unveils Epure II

Flux have now updated their plug-in Epure (one of my favorite EQs might I add) to run on TDM systems, including Venue.

The acclaimed minimum phase equalizer algorithm is now available for the DSP based Digidesign hardware including Venue. This TDM version features all the capabilities of the native version, including independent settings for every channels - up to eight -, internal MS encoders / decoders - up to four -, inputs and outputs routing matrixes. Not to mention the A / B Morphing.

Flux rumors…

I’ve picked up some news from Flux.

In the coming days they will release:

  • The follow-up to one of my favorite sounding EQs Epure II with TDM and Venue support (and also Digi Remote controls support). Excellent news!
  • A new Freeware: Stereo Tool with stereo controls and stereo oscilloscope and phase meter. Should be a useful addition to the freebies out there.

REVIEW: Brainworx bx_hybrid

bx_hybrid2_0.jpg

When you’re able to try as many plug-ins as I am, then you rarely say “wow” out loud the first few minutes with a new plug-in. The first time I tried bx_hybrid I didn’t say “wow”, but I did think to myself “damn, I need an ICON”.

Videos of the new Vintage Design ProPack

TK is the man behind the Vintage Design products which are based on earlier Neve models. Here’s two videos of him talking about the new ProPack.

This first video got a little messed up so I had to cut it. It’s really short but describes the essence of the ProPack.

This video was shot by George Necola and is a little more detailed.
