REVIEW: McDSP Futzbox, DE555, NF575

Pardon the poor quality of the video. Things didn’t work out really as it should’ve this time. I’ll try to improve it more the next time.

When McDSP first announced that they would release the three new plug-ins Futzbox, DE555 and NF575 I was very excited. After all, three new plug-ins from McDSP is basically christmas to me as I consider them to be one of the absolute top plug-in developers in the audio business. As the release approached I actually got a little worried that the plug-ins had lost the race against the competition before they had even arrived at the starting line. The verdict?

IK Multimedia announces T-RackS 3

IK Multimedia has announced the third version of their mastering software T-RackS. T-RackS gained much popularity in many home “studios” when it was released, not least thanks to computer recording magazines getting behind it. Most Pro Tools users are probably familiar with it since a lightweight version of it has come bundled with all Digidesign systems for quite some time now.

VirSyn 25% off for two or more plug-ins

Until October, 31st you can get a total discount of 25% if you buy two or more plugins from VirSyn’s FX series (meaning their VI’s aren’t included). The plug-ins available are: BARK, MATRIX, PRISM, REFLECT, TDESIGN and VTAPE.

I haven’t used all of them, but I like both REFLECT and VTAPE. But don’t take my word for it, give them a go yourself.

MultiLimit.jpg

Long time in the making and long time in beta, but the Sonalksis Mastering Suite has finally arrived. The bundle consists of four plug-ins mainly intended for mastering but also for “[...] producers, and other industry professionals who cannot compromise quality and reliability in their work”.

The Sonalksis Mastering Suite contains:

MultiLimit - Multiband Mastering Limiter
Maxlimit - Maximizing Mastering Limiter
StereoTools - Stereo Imaging Processor
Ultimate-D - Dithering

I’ve come to expect quite a bit from Sonalksis so they damn well better be good!

AES news and rumors

Already time for AES again! Man, time flies. Unfortunately I won’t be attending it this year. The worst part about that isn’t necessarily that I can’t go around molesting the latest gear, but that I’ll miss all the kickass parties I’ve been invited to! Oh well. I’ll of course do my best to cover the news, and hopefully some friendly dude or dudette will supply me with some floor footage as well (if you’re going and is interested, let me know).

In the meantime, here are some of the AES news that have dropped into my mailbox over the last few weeks.

Massey De:esser hates s’s

Jon at Audio Geek Zine gave me the tip the moment I managed to roll out of bed and turned on the computer that Massey has now released his much awaited De:esser. As is common with Massey plug-ins, you can download an almost fully functional demo and use it for however long you want. If you want the save functionality, multi-mono support and a few other features, you’ll have to shell out $89. Not a large sum of money at all for a plug-in, but it’s on the more side when it comes to Massey.

I’m downloading it and will be back later this week with a comparative review. In the meantime go download it yourself and give it a go, or you can stick around here and read more about it (in the case of XP users, your almost forced to do so since you’ll have to wait for your release until August).
