Dang gang! Give me an Mbox Micro with digital ins!
From the looks of it, Avid isn’t doing too well, and the latest news doesn’t look to bring much light to their future either. We’re talking cuts, selling entire product lines and more. Read more →
In this post I’d like to talk about something that is very close to my heart, and the one thing that keeps me from buying a decent analog board (I could never afford a great one!). Control surfaces are in my opinion essential to the digital audio revolution, and while I started out mixing without them, I would have a hard time getting rid of them entirely today. Read more →
Have you seen the list of the 2008 TEC Award winners? Pro Tools 7.4 won the workstation technology award, Euphonix MC Mix the small format console technology, while Rupert Neve took home the large format console and the mic pre technology awards. The recording devices category? ATR Master Analog Tape. Talk about a step backwards in “outstanding technical achievement”.
Here’s another video of Pro Tools 8. I got it from Mix Online and it shows Phil Jackson demonstrating Pro Tools 8. Besides the things we’ve seen in previous videos (1, 2, and the ones at Digidesign), Phil also talks about the universe, which have been in HD in a different form before. We also see close up of most views, including the new score editor and the MIDI editor which I think bears a lot of resemblance to Live’s dito.
Here’s a video from SOS with everyone’s favorite Phil Jackson. Phil shows the new instruments. He actually confirms here what I’ve been suspecting, that the new AIR plug-ins (the FX, not the instruments) are from their previous plug-ins. Forward 30 seconds in to skip the commercial.
Most of the attention have been regarding the major additions to Pro Tools 8 but there are some minor changes as well that might make you life a whole lot easier (or worse, what do I know?). Read more →
As expected, Digidesign has today showed Pro Tools 8. It turns out some of the rumours were true while others, as usual, were cock-ups. But who cares about rumours now? Pro Tools 8 looks like it will kick some serious hiney… And yes, even LE. Read more →
Digidesign has decided to expand the ICON D-Command with a keyboard. I bet I’m not the only one who says “about time” (not that I have a D-Command, but it’s my damn right to complain about these things anyway!).
I hear someone go “dude, it’s just a keyboard”, and yes sir, I agree, but it will bring class to your room. It looks like it has a nice hole to attach your monitor (either that, or this desk has some pretty wicked moles) but doesn’t it suck a little that it doesn’t has a mouse? Sure, you can attach one and there’s room for it, but a built-in mouse?
I’m also afraid to ask what the price for “just a keyboard is”. Still, don’t take these complaints too hard Digidesign. I’m the one asking for a more modular Pro Tools environment every other day. While this is a baby step, perhaps even only a baby crawl, it’s at least a little bit on the way.
Digidesign has updated both their Toolkits, DV Toolkit and Music Production Toolkit, to version 2. I think some people will be quite happy with them. For those who still think LE is a drag, Complete Production Toolkit has come to change your mind Read more →
