There’s a new mod available by Black Lion Audio for 002R/003R (note not for fader users) called ‘220 / 270SP Signature Series’.

It features our proprietary A/D and D/A circuit configurations and high speed, low noise analog stages. Low impedance, low ripple Sanyo OS-Con capacitors are used throughout the signal path and converter stages. Analog stage headroom is increased by 20dB over the stock 002.

Worth to note here is that the headroom for 003R is increased by 15dB over the 002R according to Black Lion themselves. This makes me question how much improvement that’s actually been made on the 003R.

Black Lion Audio has gotten their hands on one of the 003 units and have posted some tech specs about it on their website. They also report that they will begin to offer mods of it very soon.

Lately there have been a lot of buzz about modded 002s and 001s. Black Lion Audio is said to simply put make your interface sound better and is aimed towards both the home project studio as well as the pro studio.

They are not restricted to Digidesign hardware and offers mod-jobs for M-Audio Delta 1010, Alesis AI-3, and MOTU interfaces as well.

I have yet to hear a Black Lion modded product myself but I have heard a lot of positive feedback from users.
