Brainworx has lowered their TDM prices, and not as a promo either. How much beats me but I applaud the initiative. TDM prices are usually explained as higher because it’s a lot of extra work to code (and from what I understand from some developers, literally a bloody pain). Regardless, I think the price difference is ridiculous. I hope more will follow in Brainworx footsteps.
Toontrack has announced that Beatstation is now available.
From the Toontrack press release:
Offering drum, bass and lead instrument creation & arrangement with drag and drop simplicity, Beatstation is your “go to” instrument for quickly getting a full groove up and running in no time at all. As if that’s not enough, we’ve also added full MIDI & REX file support. Couple those features with the flexibility of working in Beatstation as a stand alone instrument or an AU, RTAS or VST plugin inside your favorite DAW and Beatstation becomes a creative musical force to be reckoned with.
Beatsation comes standard with a 1.5 Gb core content library packed full of
beautifully recorded instrument patches, loop ready REX files and even completely customizable MIDI arrangements.
What I’ve seen so far, Beatstation doesn’t look very interesting to me. I have to admit though, it’s pretty cool that you can use your EZX’s and SDX’s with it.
PSP Audioware has updated VintageWarmer to version 2.5.0. The big news are…
From PSP Audioware:
* New member of the PSP Warmer family: PSP MicroWarmer which provides the same sound quality as it’s big siblings, but with a simplified single-band interface and low latency performance optimized for use on individual tracks.
* PSP VintageWarmer2 now compatible with hosts running in 64-bit mode on Windows and Mac OS X!
MicroWarmer is of course a great addition if you like the sound of VintageWarmer and should make quite a few people happy.
Until June 23 VIntageWarmer2 users can upgrade for $29. Until June 31 the price is $39, after which the price will be $49.
Every week after that the price will be $10 more, making it available for the bargain price of $5269 around the same time in ten years. The first plug-in that will actually be worth a lot more and considered vintage in the future.
Just kidding.
For three days only, June 15-17, Retro Pack HD is available for $395 and Retro Pack Native is available for $195.
I like Retro Pack. I’ve especially enjoyed the EQ which has really nice and crunchy mids. On occassion I’ll use the Retro Limiter as well. It’s very colored, and usually I prefer to use ML1 but sometimes it’s just right. Haven’t really used the compressor lately.
The World Cup in football (that’s ’soccer’ to you guys and gals overseas) is on. If you’ve watched it you probably haven’t missed the sound of thousands of vuvuzelas. Neither has Waves, who will help you get rid of it.
From Waves:
In response to the widely publicized complaints from TV viewers and broadcasters of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Waves is proud to unveil a solution which dramatically reduces the problematic sound of the omnipresent Vuvuzela trumpet favored by South African soccer fans.
Working in conjunction with a major television broadcaster, we’ve precision-crafted a preset processing chain which drastically decreases Vuvuzela noise: The WNS Waves Noise Suppressor and the Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer. Together, they not only minimize Vuvuzela noise, they increase the intelligibility of the game announcers’ play-by-play action and color commentary.
The processing chain for Vuvuzela noise reduction is now available as load-and-use sessions for Pro Tools, Waves MultiRack, and Cubase.
Brilliant!
Native Instruments thinks we need more strings for Kontakt 4 and Kontakt Player. I agree, I’m still using the stock sounds. Read more →
Slate Digital has finally released their second product. Following Trigger, here comes FG-X, a dedicated mastering processor consisting of a limiter and a compressor, as well as dedicated transient controls.

Wavefactory Samples has released a new guitar sound library for Kontakt called Power Guitars. Three versions are available: free, direct and full. The latter containing amped guitar sounds as well. The full version is available at an introductory offer until July 1st – $49.
As usual with sampled and modeled guitars, I’m not very impressed. But maybe it will fit someone else. Kudos for the free version though, every sound library should have one.
