Slate Digital is really into including several modules into one plugin. In the past we’ve seen examples like this in FG-X and more recently Virtual Buss Compressors. Now they’ve announced another one: Virtual Mix Rack.
So what is it? Well, a 500-series lunchbox, sort of, in the digital realm. You can load up to eight module into one VMR and it comes with four of them from the get go. The business model is to give you the chance to buy more. I’m immediately thinking about IK Multimedia’s Custom Shop.
Click the picture for full size and read the description of each module.
My only question is this: what does the rack itself bring to the table? I mean, why can’t I just insert my EQ as I normally would? In the hardware realm it’s obvious, it powers the modules, but what’s the purpose here?
Anyway, I’m excited to see what comes of this. Slate Digital has already released some great products so I’ll definitely keep an eye out. If you’re at AES you can stop by Slate and c:o and see VMR in action.
