Quantum Leap has released a new instrument available for download at $99 – Solo Violin. It was recorded at Remote Control Productions, a film score facility run by veteran film composer Hans Zimmer.
Quantum Leap Solo Violin includes 5 passes of true legatos sampled intervals, Legato soft, legato forte, expressive legato, portamento and fast legato/ trill/ run.
Quantum Leap Solo Violin features round robin up and down bowing on most articulations and is the first violin virtual instrument that can handle very fast playing and live trill playing with ease. All of the basic articulations were sampled as well as various expressive articulations, vibrato styles and non vibrato.
CC11 controls volume on all patches and CC1 or mod wheel controls crossfading or sample switching on all MOD programs. All programs are listed under the “Content” tab.
Quantum Leap Solo Violin is described as having “a sound and character ideally suited for film and classical work”.
As you might expect, Solo Violin runs off the latest version of EastWest’s PLAY software, which features two new solo violin reverb impulses designed to make Quantum Leap Solo Violin blend well with other EastWest/Quantum Leap collections.

Wow. Twenty seconds into that demo and, uh, no.
I agree with frankw, sounds very synthy. If they have portamentos, they should be showing that all over the demo, but no, it just sounds like a badly programmed violin. I created a lot more realistic violin performances for Black Lab, using LASS alone.
Wow… it sounds terrible
I think EW is losing their mind. How can they possibly think this sounds good. Guess that’s why it’s $99.00.
So I take it that you guys aren’t buying it?
Definitely not buying it! The solo violin in East West’s Gypsy library is much expressive than this, even though it does not have as much articulations as this. This just sounds boring and does not seem to be expressive enough.
wow, i have better free vst interfaces that look more pro than that one. looks like it was done on synthedit, and badly…. sounds like a cheesebox too…. sorry, solo strings, and sax, never will be like the real. too much humaness… also, i have had issues with eastwest stuff not working, or clunky in the past…. hey, the solo vio on xpand sounds better.
