Now here’s a cool idea from Soniccouture. They’re building a choir / vocal ensemble made with hundreds of voices from all around the world and need a a minimum of 500 notes to layer in the instrument. Oh yeah, they’re inviting everyone to help them out!
Everybody that sends a recorded note will receive the CrowdChoir instrument free, in Kontakt /EXS & Ableton Live format. Also, one participant chosen at random will receive the custom-made, 5 octave cherry-wood mbira they recorded to create the Array Mbira kontakt player instrument.
The project will run for 2 months, until March 31st 2012.

I wonder how they plan to deal with noise build-up? I’ve never been able to stack much more than twenty single voice tracks, even in a fairly quiet pro studio, without it getting quite bothersome.
Sure we can expect that noise will be part of the game as they even say “even a built-in laptop mic”.
I guess they’re not about creating a HQ Choir like other would do, mainly because Soniccouture is best known for their weird instruments and their love of desired imperfections.
Also it’s a pretty good marketing plan that won’t cost them much $$.
Anyway, i like the idea and i’m going to record some G# and some A !
I saw this video for the first time the other day

And now this?! Looking forward to more crowd sourced sample sets.
