Ohm Studio – come together

Sometimes I actually think someone out there is listening to my ideas. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t take any kind of credit for Ohm Studio, but damn, the wicked minds at Ohm Force has done what I’ve been preaching for years.

It was kind of predictable, really, that it wouldn’t be Avid, Steinberg or even Apple (though they would be the best bet among the big three) to realize what has clearly been the future for years. Ableton would have been a good guess, they’re at least taking the step with Share, Propellerhead… Maybe. Ohm Force? Nah!

But as it just so happens, it turned out to be Ohm Force. Somehow the wicked minds stabilized and created something that didn’t look like a singing monkey, Dr Frankenstein or Transformers – they created the future.

My hat is off and I’ll be the first to applaud the effort – Thank you Ohm Force for understanding.

Have you watched the video yet? You should, so you understand what the heck I’m talking about. From the real time collaboration, to the community, to the modular effect section (yet simple if you want to), this is resembling my hopes for what a DAW could be. Actually, it resembles my suggestions of what someone should make. Of course I wasn’t alone in this, Ohm Force did by no means steal the suggestions for me – wicked minds think alike.

The question that needs to be answered now has nothing to do with operation of Ohm Studio, but will the people take it to their heart. Will Ohm Force, a crazy plug-in company with the best ad campaigns ever, be able to make a dent in the World of DAW’s.

If they don’t, directly, I think we’ll at least see other companies going similar routes. So even if Ohm Studio would turn out to be an epic fail in itself, I have little doubt that Ohm Force has shown the way for many others.

awesome. people have been talking about this for years but the internet hasn’t really been at a fast enough point for that. pretty sure we are there. I could see logic implementing this sooner then you think. It just makes sense. Not sure if I want to switch to a whole new daw. going to keep an eye on this though. would be fantastic for writing.

There have been other attempts, already,
like from Koblo or Indaba. But these were mostly based around ‘pre made’ loops, with only few or no possibilites to bring in your own stuff, FAIK.

So Ohm Studio really takes online collaboration to the next level.

But making predictions about that one I find exceptionally difficult.

They have my best wishes for sure!
    :)

This is a great idea whose time is coming. I have so many questions… plugin formats, offline workflow, cost, etc. So impressed by the Ohmies.

That GUI is a bit bland looking for them though. I wonder if there’s a “funky” skin as well?

I signed up for the beta. really hope I get into it. Id love a new way of writing. 10 at night and im inspired but need a bass line. check whose online get them to drop one. awesome. just awesome. Also if you deal with local people through it you could eventually form a band from your favorite musicians. Its like craigs list but with a try before you buy.

looks great. I wonder what the implications of copyrighting and ownership are though. With everything being on a central ohm studio server, and with any number of collaborations. Who owns the track upon completion?

I tried Indaba, but their Flash application sux IMHO.
So I am looking forward to this!
