@Chad - the Beatles angle is probably 80% of the Abbey Road mystique, so unfortunately for some, they will forever be entwined. How often have you seen Abbey Road hardware (or 'licensed software' :) ) NOT say 'as used on Beatles' recordings!' ?

Abbey Road and the Beatles are different things. People seem to confuse the two.

The two companies may want to leverage each others' strengths in the mixing/mastering area by NI bringing the AR skills, assets and gems to the market in higher volumes, at lower prices and with the effective packaging from and synergy with NI's Kore2 and Komplete products. NI can get a nice mastering addition to their offering, and NI's distribution channel will bring more value to AR than it would to the likes of IK Multimedia or izotope who are already well established in this space. See my blog for more detail: http://bit.ly/76nvGz

interesting... lots of competition already in the samples department, though. reason + abbey road refill (which is officially licensed!), then there's eastwest's fab four which is 'unlicensed' but recorded by Ken Scott so the pedigree is there anyway. i dumped reason quite some time ago though so getting some of those instruments in a kontakt form might be welcome, but it depends how different it is from fab four (which is really, really excellent if you need those sorts of sounds.)
