Phat Monkey:

On a Mac, command-click does indeed reset controls, even in Pro Tools (non-standard for PT). I missed this the first and second auditions, but I'm really glad it's there. I can't find a fine increment modifier. Option-click jumps to the cursor position, if you're on the knob... could be useful.

As for the filters, the standard is down 3 dB at the frequency setting. It's still usable, but you can't go low enough for some bass instruments, for example. I noticed this by the sound and then verified by testing. So yes, I do use my ears... and my brain. The EQ curves seem a little odd, too.

GR meter: I ran some tones and the second and third segments seem to be about 1 dB. For some reason, the first is always lit... kind of a waste. The fourth segment and beyond are larger increments. All in all, knowing these things makes the visual feedback enough to help.

Like I said, it's okay for $15. I think that is about the range per plug-in in their recent bundles sales. I was tempted to get in on one of those, but didn't. Also, the fact that it has RTAS is a plus. I think these BT plug-ins are older, too. I would guess that their newer ones are better.

Hi Frank. When I said that the trackbox is not an every channel plug-in i was referring to the fact that the trackbox's sound is designed to be very coloring. There are other channel strip type plug-ins that are designed to be an every track plug-in and they usually have a fairly neutral/discrete sound. I think that if the trackbox was used on every track that the whole mix would become quite muddy because of the colored sound. Thats not to say that $15 is not an amazing price, compounded by the fact that I bought the plug-in the moment I saw this offer!I do not own the URS CSP but I have heard fantastic things about it. That said it costs several hundred dollars more so comparing the URS CPS to the Trackbox is not really a fair comparison anyway.

after my mental blackout above I corrected my mind
please ignore the above!

hi frank,

well, since I got the URS CSP, I use it on everything because it is so versatile, there is just no place it does not fit, really. And with 2.0 it´s gotten even better!
While I admit, there will be special occasions where other Plugs might fit better, but who cares if I have 98% of the ground covered. ;)
Add. it keeps my plug-in folder tidy.

The Trackbox displays the parameter values in the top RIGHT corner (title bar). I also agree it´s bit unfair to compare the Trackbox to the CSP. The standart URS CS would be the proper 'combatant'. But even then, I am more likely with URS.

And while it´s definately true the Trackbox is worth MORE that $15 I just question the fact, like others here, that I would use it often. For me it´s not really about the $15, it`s more a principle thing.

Because I think plug-ins should be valued by how often you use them.
And under that point of view it might not even be worth $15 to me. But that´s only me.

If you USE the Trackbox more often, you should certainly enjoy it, it´s a good choice!

sorry for the typos tec. ;)

"no modifier key to reset controls to default position" 'Option' click on the preset label or the individual knob.

"the 20 Hz HPF is down 3 dB at 50 Hz." Okay. But do you adjust exactly by the numbers, or do you use your ears? 'Cause I can say this(there are variations) about a great many plug ins...

"There are also some GUI deficiencies like: no labels on the gain reduction meters" Like I said in my first post, the URS CSP is $600. Though I guess they should maybe update this 'cause I thought about that too...

"It has a very colored tube sound that does not make it an ‘every track’ type of channel strip." Would you use the URS CSP on every channel? I doubt I would, though I know it has several algos. If anything, I'd probably go with my SSL's for that...

It just seems to me that when compared to the $600 URS CSP, this plug is definitely worth the under $200 price tag. It's a multi-purpose utility plug. I just think it's very useful and sounds good in its own unique way. Maybe I feel so strongly BECAUSE I only paid $15. Seems like it's worth way more than that to me...

I demoed the TrackBox a year or so ago. It has a very colored tube sound that does not make it an 'every track' type of channel strip. However the colored sound is a great effect in its own right, especially if driven hard. For $189 it would not be worth it. But for $15 its an absolute steal. Just bought mine.

Gonna concur with Dom here and pass on these no-brainers. Just don't see myself using the Nomad plug. Now... the Sonnox group buy... I'm really wrestling with that one!

I had a second go and TrackBox is not that bad. The frequencies are off on the filters, though. For example, the 20 Hz HPF is down 3 dB at 50 Hz. The sound is overall kind of lackluster, IMO.

There are also some GUI deficiencies like: no labels on the gain reduction meters, no modifier key to reset controls to default position, and no modifier for fine increment. The tube section is interesting... I guess it's okay for $15.

Haven't tried the URS and I know they make great plugs. I have their A and N eq's. But I find the Trackbox to sound great be quite useful. All of the functions are simple and effective. The gate is excellent. The eq is subtle and has a nice individual color. The tube as well. The compressor has a great analog quality about it, as well as the limiter. After my tube preamp, I use a separate (ITB)compressor/limiter and gate to record vocals usually, this will now replace them. I'll have to demo the URS Strip, but keep in mind the URS is $600/native(more than three times the money) and a lot more detailed. That's what I paid for my Waves SSL set. So perhaps it should have an edge over the Trackbox(though I'm hard pressed to see how it could be but so much sonically). Plus, it doesn't have the tube. A really cool feature. But if you don't already have the URS, even at $189 this is truly a no-brainer...

I am demoing the Trackbox against the my URS Channel Strip Pro 2.0.

I find the Trackbox is nowhere near the bite, precision and glue of the URS CSP2. AS I said before, Trackbox has a lot of color but not in obstrusive ways.

But Esp the EQ lacks most, quite boomy, IMHO
while tube, gate and comp do some good work and the Lmiter also works ok.

but as someone said: "for a $189 plug-in I´d expected more".
BUT this is against the URS CSP, beat of the best. So you cannot really expect to compete against it.

So I am again tied between wanting it and don´t really need it, because again for $15 it´s a nice flavor, still.
