Universal Audio has updated their DSP platform with three anticipated plug-ins. Fatso Jr/Sr (a tape emulator and compressor), EMT 250 (the classic reverb) and Neve 31102 / 31102SE (console EQ’s).
I guess the Fatso plug-in makes it an emulation of an emulation to some extent. Interesting…
More about the 5.4.0 software, Fatso, EMT 250 and the Neve at Universal Audio.

A while ago I reported about a new Flux dynamics plug-in called Syrah. According to the Flux Twitter page it has now reached the final beta stage. Hopefully it will be released soon (an August release perhaps?).
I think this is the first compressor I’m excited about since Softube released FET Compressor. Flux dynamic plug-ins usually handle the signal delicately, and they already have a compressor (PureCompressor) so I’m curious to see what this will bring to the table.
Flux, and on Twitter.

You won’t believe this. The Achilles heel of yesterdays Pro Tools, the old horrible piano roll in the edit window, was actually useful today! Since Pro Tools 8 was released I thought I’d never, ever gonna use the traditional Pro Tools piano roll again. I’ve complained about it for years, but today I actually had use for it. A simple task, shortening some MIDI notes that acted as doubles to an audio track, was easier to do in the window where both the audio and MIDI was visible. OK, so it probably won’t happen again for a year or so, but still… I stand corrected – the old school piano roll isn’t completely useless!

It seems like there are new group buys all the time these days. While I have previously stated it’s a good idea, I’m worried that too many group buys at the same time will not give the desired effect.
The latest in line is from Imperfect Samples, offering up to 50% discount on their piano samples/instruments if enough people participate. The group buy ends August 21st.

The Prime Loops contest has ended and the winners have been picked by a ruthless jury. We didn’t agree on all occasions, but I think the winners deserved it. It was tough to pick them and there were several other songs in the discussions, so if you didn’t make it don’t get too depressed.
