Digidesign has lost its face

This striking work of art was made by GFXPunk.

It used to be that Digidesign was one face of a multi-headed hydra called Avid. Not long ago Avid went public that they wanted to merge their faces into one. Standing outside looking in, I can only say that recent actions makes the entire company look completely faceless.

Scott Church is going too

When a bird whispered in my ear that Scott Church was leaving Avid I hoped it was just a nasty rumor. It turned out it wasn’t.

Prime Loops contest is over…

The Prime Loops contest has ended and I’ve already gotten emails asking about the winners. Hold your horses! They will be posted here and be notified by email next week.

A big thanks to everyone who participated!

First thing’s first…

Rest in Piece Michael Jackson – King of Pop

It’s safe to say there will never be anyone coming remotely close to what you were. May the gods of whatever world you worship have mercy on you and your travel over the river Styx be pleasant. I will salute you today with plenty of whine and by listening to your LPs.

Dear readers, if you like to know more about the recording process of Michael Jackson, head over to Gearslutz and check out the Bruce Swedien Q&A. If you want to know more about the performer Michael Jackson, head over to Youtube and browse around. I was looking for a good video to post here, but most of them are awesome so it felt a little ridiculous trying to find one. If you want to know more about the person Michael Jackson, I suspect you should stay away from the tabloids.

Brainworx offers

Brainworx lets you save some of your hard earned cash if you already own Brainworx plug-ins and want to upgrade to the bx_bundle. More details on the Brainworx website and in their webstore.

The Brainworx plug-ins are obviously doing well, and are now backed up by sound designer and sound effects editor Tim Nielsen (Lord of the rings, Pirates of the carribean, Indiana Jones 4, etc.) according to Brainworx. Tim had this to say:

Hybrid and Digital have quickly become the only EQs I use in mastering sound effects. The presence and bass shifters are some of the most useful tools I’ve ever seen in any plugin, and I wish I’d had them 10 years ago. The stereo width control, mono maker, the amazing solo features, I’m simply stunned at how useful this plugin is in almost everything I do.
And because I record mostly in M/S, that it can do that too makes Brainworx the only EQ and first plugin I ever reach for anymore. Period.

Not bad coming from an employee at Skywalker. Speaking of which, you haven’t missed the video from Skywalker Sound have you?

M-Audio Axiom Pro vs Novation SL Mk2

Here’s a nice video of a guy comparing the Axiom Pro and it’s Hyper Control with Novation SL Mk2 and the latest Automap. I think it’s a pretty good video, although the guy works for Novation.

I was looking to do this myself, but got held up because of media politics at first, then by some random jerk. I’ll probably get around to doing it later as I’m actually looking to get a new keyboard controller myself, and it seems like these are the top contenders for me at the moment.

Antares Mutator for a measly 10 bucks

Have ten bucks to spare? Until June 30 you can get Antares Mutator for that price. I haven’t tried it and don’t know if it’s worth it.
