Ohm Force announces split payments

Ohm Force has announced that you can now purchase any plug-in or bundle from their website and split the payment in 3 equal parts with no extra charges. The formula is 1st payment when purchasing then 30 and 60 days.

From Ohm Force:

Hmmm…. you may asking : ok, nice, but… why is it audio news? Well, maybe not, but not only Ohm Force have always been the only plug-in editor to support music students during these last 8 years – giving musicians a -50% discount when they’re need it the most – but now also the only to provide the split payment option in a regular basis, outside any promotion, coupon use or stuff like that. We do believe that good music software must be affordable, so let’s make things a little easier.

Well, Ohm Force, I do think this is audio news. I actually think it’s a really good idea (a little like, but not similar, to rent-to-own). What I do find odd is that it’s a company like Ohm Force, who already has very reasonably priced plug-ins, that decide to introduce this, and not one of the many developers who charge a small fortune for their products.

There are 1 lone comment ~ what do you think?

  1. When you think about it, software companies are the one industry that can offer payment plans without needing to do credit checks – since most software has time-based “free demo” features that expire, it should be easy to write in a monthly “failure” that requires a quick login to update your payment.

I could see people buying even pricey software this way, via monthly payment – it would feel like “leasing” to most consumers. The potential for abuse would be consumers purchasing for “one big project”, making two payments and being done in 60 days – but really, what’s wrong with that? It would be similar to renting, would expose people to the software, and the manufacturer would at least get *some* money as opposed to pirating (which consumers are more likely to do if they just need software for a short period). (”Yo, charley, can I borrow your InDesign disc for this one brochure??” ) When people use your product, they’re more likely to purchase it (if it’s a good product). I like it.
