Windows versions of Mid-Side Suite and Flipper

reFuse has now released Windows versions of the free plug-ins Flipper and Mid-Side Suite.

Flipper flips the polarity, and Mid-Side Suite includes an MS Decoder and an MS Encoder. All plug-ins requires Pluggo Jr (free) or Pluggo Runtime. Development of Pluggo has ceased, as previously reported, but they’re still available for download.

McDSP June specials

McDSP is running two offers this month.

  1. Purchase or upgrade to Emerald Pack HD or Native or Classic Pack HD or Native for 20% off retail value. Emerald Pack includes Analog Channel, Channel G, Channel G Compact, Chrome Tone, CompressorBank, DE555, FilterBank, FutzBox, MC2000, ML4000, NF575, Revolver and Synthesizer One. Classic Pack includes Analog Channel, CompressorBank, FilterBank and MC2000.

Unfortunately, the new Retro Pack isn’t available in this offer. I personally still keep Futzbox, ML4000 and Analog Channel in my slim plug-in folder. Channel G deserves a special mention as well, as I think it’s a very competent channelstrip.

  2. The other offer lets you purchase individual LE plug-ins for only $79 each. Individual LE plug-ins include Analog Channel LE, Chrome Tone LE, CompressorBank LE, FilterBank LE, ML4000 LE, Revolver LE and Synthesizer One LE.

Note that the McDSP LE plug-ins are not the same as native plug-ins. These are slimmed down versions of the regular plug-ins.

Windows Vista SP2 — not tested — no known issues

According to Digidesign…

Service Pack 2 for Windows (released May 26, 2009) has not been tested with Pro Tools systems. There are currently no known issues with Vista SP2 compared to Vista SP1 with Pro Tools for Vista. However, users should be aware of the following:

  • Although there are currently no known issues, Windows Vista SP2 is not yet officially qualified for use with Pro Tools systems. Should you choose to update to Vista SP2, be advised that is an unsupported configuration at this time.
  • If you choose to update to Windows Vista SP2, it is strongly recommended that you backup your system and create a restore point before updating to SP2, should you encounter any problems after installing the update.

If you use Vista SP2, be sure to let us know how it performs.

TL Space Native Edition 8.0cs3 available for download

TL Space Native Edition 8.0cs3 is now available for download. It includes only one fix.

From Avid/Digidesign:

Fixed: Surround sound compatibility update for TL Space Native Edition (Item #113681)

  • Fixes surround sound compatibility when TL Space Native Edition is used with Complete Production Toolkit or Pro Tools HD

Who Should Use TL Space Native Edition 8.0cs3?

  • TL Space Native Edition 8.0cs3 is provided as an interim “customer support (CS)” release to address the issue described. While our testing has not shown these changes to introduce other problems, the fixes described have not been fully qualified by Digidesign.
  • Although this version will also work with other systems such as Pro Tools LE without the Complete Production Toolkit and Pro Tools M-Powered, there is no need to update from version 8.0 to version 8.0cs3 if you do not use TL Space Native Edition with Complete Production Toolkit or Pro Tools HD systems.

Some thoughts on the Kontakt 3.5 beta

I finally made the decision to grab the Kontakt 3.5 beta and try it out a few days ago. It’s stable for me, seems more CPU friendly (even if I stupidly forgot to monitor exact changes in CPU usage before and after the upgrade).
