Modartt releases a Walter pianoforte add-on

Modartt has released a add-on for their Pianoteq plug-in. Unlike many piano VI’s, Pianoteq is not samplebased and constantly gets updated with new ‘instruments’. The latest in line is a virtual copy of a Walter pianoforte, Vienna, ca 1790 belonging to Paul Badura-Skoda.

Videos of new M-Audio controller and McDSP

I just finished watching this video of every protoolers big cuddle bear Phil Jackson showing the new M-Audio Axiom Pro. I’m actually tempted by this (the controller, not Phil Jackson).

I also found this one of Colin McDowell talking about the new McDSP plug-ins. This is not the same as the video posted earlier. Someone please give Colin a TV show, I could watch him all day.

As you can see, both videos were stolen fair and square from Sonicstate.

A quick tip: printing tracks I

As you might know, I’m a fan of printing tracks for the sake of commitment, but there’s another reason for it as well. There have been rare occassions when I’ve felt the need to open up and redo something in an old song. What if I had layed down the guitar track with the help of an amp simulator and… I don’t have the plug-in anymore. The plug-in might not even exist anymore. What to do? Well, you could try another amp simular or reamp through a real amp, but chances are that you had found the sound.

The solution: always print tracks at the end of the session. To be honest I don’t print reverbs and such, but distortion, amp simulators and certainly all VI’s gets printed.

REVIEW: Digidesign Pro Tools 8 – the look, the feel, the horror

Reviewing a DAW is a pain in the ass, especially one which have been so heavily updated as Pro Tools 8. Should I go into details? A review can’t be too long, and with all the details Pro Tools 8 includes, a regular review wouldn’t allow me too. Should I wait months to post my opinions until I have tried all the new plug-ins? Surely people want to know what I think now. Enter the internet and the blog format. Unlike magazines we’re privileged to publish at any time. Therefore, to include as much as possible in the review, I decided to turn it into one of several parts. This first part focuses on initial impressions, trouble that usually follows, as well as the overall feel.

Ambient Metal Constructions released by Producer Loops

I usually get somewhere close to a billion press releases for various sound libraries every week. Usually I don’t have much clue about the style they’re aimed for. I simply haven’t kept up with all the different electronica genres that are out there today. I thought I knew quite a bit about various metal styles however, so I was a little surprised to see a library called Ambient Metal Constructions released by Producer Loops, a style I can’t say I’m very familiar with.
