Some awesome news from camp McDSP: At Winter NAMM McDSP will present the new Retro Pack Bundle, which includes the 4020 Retro EQ, 4030 Retro Compressor and the 4040 Retro Limiter, along with Channel G Compact, Channel G Surround and Emerald Pack 4.0.
Retro Pack Bundle
The new Retro Pack Bundle, previously mentioned in the last interview I did with Colin McDowell, is as far as I understand plug-ins with “vintage vibe”, but without actually emulating any particular vintage equipment.
From the McDSP press release:
The 4020 Retro EQ is a four-band EQ and complimentary filter set. The HF and LF bands are shelving EQ, with two additional parametric EQs at the HMF and LMF bands.
The 4030 Retro Compressor is a new dynamic range control topology coupled with a wet/dry mix control to balance compressed and uncompressed signals. An active attack and release design allows aggressive compression settings with minimal artifact generation.
The 4040 Retro Limiter combines a look-ahead brick wall limiter function with several subjective treatments to make the limiting action subtle, and yet vintage.
Shipping in Spring 2009, the Retro Pack HD Bundle will be available for $995, and the Native Bundle will be available for $495. Unfortunately, Retro Pack will not be included in the Emerald Pack bundle, instead Emerald Pack HD 4.0 customers will be eligible to purchase Retro Pack HD for $695 and Emerald Pack Native 4.0 customers will be eligible to purchase Retro Pack Native for $295.
Channel Surround
Channel G Surround looks like it continues on the tradition of the kickass channelstrip Channel G.
Channel G Surround is a Compressor/Limiter optimized for 5.1 channels using 4 compressors sets – LR, C, LsRs, and LFE. These compressor sets can key from any combination of the LR, C, LsRs, and LFE channels. Individual compressor controls can be linked across various surround channels, and the LFE channel includes an optional low pass filter. Channel G Surround seamlessly integrates with the Digidesign D-Control and D-Command control surfaces.
Shipping in Spring 2009, Channel G Surround will be available for $495. Like the Retro Pack, Channel G Surround will not be included in the Emerald Pack bundle, instead Emerald Pack HD 4.0 customers will be eligible to purchase Channel G Surround for $295.
Channel G Compact
Another variation of Channel G, Channel G Compact is supposedly a smaller Channel G. Unfortunately McDSP isn’t clear on what they have cut down on besides DSP.
Channel G Compact delivers the same sonic experience as Channel G with a smaller DSP footprint. Channel G Compact features calibration modes for music, post production, and models of the world’s most popular analog mixing desks. The user interface seamlessly integrates with the Digidesign D-Control and D-Command control surfaces, as well as the Venue D-Show and Profile live sound consoles.
Also shipping in Spring 2009, Channel G Compact HD will be available individually and as an upgrade to Emerald Pack 4.0. Channel G Compact HD will be available for $495, and Channel G Compact Native will be available for $295.
Emerald Pack 4.0
So, Emerald Pack 4.0 will not include Channel G Surround or the Retro Pack Bundle. Personally I don’t understand why it won’t be the “everything bundle” anymore, but that’s the way it is.
When released it will include: Analog Channel, Channel G, CHannel G Compact, Chrome Tone, CompressorBank, DE555, FilterBank, FutzBox, MC2000, ML4000, NF575, Revolver and Synthesizer One.
Like the other new products, Emerald Pack 4.0 ships in Spring 2009. Emerald Pack HD 4.0 will be available for $2995 and Emerald Pack Native 4.0 will be available for $1595. Existing Emerald Pack 3.0 customers can upgrade to Emerald Pack 4.0. $195 for HD customers and $95 for Native customers.
