Laptops, touchscreens and step sequencers

So I got my hands on a Kojinsha (not the one pictured), a computer that makes my MacBook look like Godzilla. My hope was to find a very basic step sequencer or something like that with a huge button interface (seeing as the screen on this thing is bloody small!) and use with external synths. I simply miss good old hardware sequencers, and a computer with a touchscreen like the Kojinsha should be almost as good.

At the moment I have Windows XP installed but was hoping to find something that runs on Linux. Easier said than done, there simply doesn’t seem to be an MPC interface or something similar fun out there. So far I’ve played around with Hydrogen (website) and FL Studio (website) which I haven’t used in years. FL Studio actually has a setting for touchscreen computers! Kudos for that!

Anyway, if you have any ideas to something I should check out let me know. Next problem will be to sync the bastard to Pro Tools! Luckily Digidesign is all about opening up their connections so it shouldn’t be a problem… Ehm… ;)

  1. You could use Reaktor; just build yourself an ensemble with giant knobs, then use that to either control a Reaktor-based sound source or send out MIDI to wherever you want. Sync to ProTools via MIDI clock.
