Abbey Road releases Brilliance pack

A new set of Abbey Road plug-ins are available in the ‘Brilliance pack’. The plug-ins included emulates the RS127 (box and rack) and RS135 ‘presence’ EQs, which - according to the creators of the plug-ins - were key components of the Abbey Road sound during the ’60s and used on countless famous recordings.

The plug-ins are compatible with Mac and Windows systems and are provided in TDM, RTAS, AU and VST and can be bought directly from their website for $199.

  1. I’ve heard these and I do net get the fuzz…. OK, They do emulate something that was found in the abbey road studios. So you get what it says on the box. But I couldn’t get anything out of them that wasn’t repeatable with a EQIII. Wasted money. I love simple EQ’s though and I am looking around for someone who cqn design a simple tilt EQ plug in (tilt EQ like you would find it on old 3 series Quad amps.) I tried to email massey, but didn’t get any response. Anyone on protoolerblog who knows how to start a project like this…?

  2. I haven’t tried these yet but will give them a go once time permits.

How about starting a petition for the EQ you want? Gearslutz would probably be the place to start with that.

  3. I providionally felt the same until I started to A-B the Abbey Road plugins with other Eq’s. Technically, any EQ can reproduce a simple 8 or 10k boost. What you hear over and above that with the Abbey Road stuff is a general warming up of the signal in a similar fashion to what Neve transformers do. Limited they may be but I found them to be very pleasing on a number of different sources and even and a sweetener on the master channel.
For £100 I think they’re reasonable and give things a touch of class.

  4. I have compared it to all of the UAD-1 plugins and others and I found the Brilliance Pack to be more pleasing. It gave me results I only knew from my Manley Massive Passive. You can “open” the signal a bit more with these EQs than with any other software EQ available.
The German “Sound & Recording” wrote, that this is one of the first times band saturation is emulated satisfying.

My favorite EQ! Absolutely not repeatable with any other software EQ. Change your speakers/cables or do something with your ears, if you can’t hear the differences.
