Pro Tools pre-release available for Mac OS X Leopard users
The pre-release of 7.4.2 is now available.
From Digidesigns website
Digidesign has announced the immediate availability of a pre-release version of Pro Tools® software that provides expanded Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard compatibility for many Pro Tools users. Pro Tools 7.4.2pr software is provided as a convenience for Mac-based Pro Tools 7.4 users who may wish to begin their transition to Leopard before a fully tested and qualified version of Pro Tools becomes available.
Pro Tools 7.4.2pr software is available as a download only, and requires Mac OS X 10.5.3. Pro Tools 7.4.2pr is not compatible with earlier versions of Leopard. It’s free for registered 7.4 users. Pro Tools HD 7.4.2pr includes new support for Avid Mojo® and older Apple Mac Pro computers.
Now I haven’t made the jump to Leopard (guess why) so I’m not plagued with all these problems, but personally I wouldn’t jump on this version if I didn’t absolutely have issues with my system. I would definitely not upgrade from Tiger to Leopard because of this version if Tiger is stable. After all, this is called a pre-release.

How unusual for Digidesign to use something like this as an opportunity to force us all to pay to upgrade to 7.4. Grr!

You expect that 7.3 would/should work with OS X 10.5?
For people who bought a new Mac (me), which come with 10.5, ProTools has sorta worked on it. This version seems better than the cs4 release, which was pretty good. I see a lot less usage in the RTAS CPU meter.

OK, after some installing, using and abusing this version I would like to share my findings:
I (and a friend also) run a brand new 2×2.8 Eight Core with 8Gb Ram (friends one 6Gb RAM) and OS X 10.5. Most installing and using was done with an Mbox2 and Digi002.
This system seems pretty stable. All plug ins seem to work fine, inclusing most Native Instruments. Just the Elektrik Piano has some problems. Wave Arts, Massey, PSP: all no problems.
What I am worried about is the Waves Diamond bundle. It randomly shows up in the list of PI’s. Some sessions the’re there and some sessions you get the warning that waves plug ins where not found.
I have no problems using (very) large Virtual Instruments or high tracks counts.
That’s my 2 cents…
