Digidesign previews upcoming Transfuser virtual instrument

Digidesign today unveiled the Transfuser Preview, a free three-month prerelease version of Transfuser, a new upcoming RTAS virtual instrument plug-in for Pro Tools software. Seems like another flirt with hiphop and electronic musicians.
From the Digidesign press release
Transfuser is a real-time loop, phrase, and groove creation virtual instrument designed for quickly and easily creating, manipulating, and performing loop- and rhythm-based music on the fly within Pro Tools. It also offers users a quick and easy way to modify existing loop libraries to breathe new life into their creations.
Ideal for electronic, hip-hop, and dance music production, remixing, and anyone working with loops, Transfuser comes packed with a variety of loops and phrases to get started with creating right away. Users can create grooves using multiple drum and effects modules, slice and tag loops in real-time, convert loops into MIDI patterns/drum kits, and replace sounds in existing loops on the fly. Transfuser supports full drag and drop of Pro Tools regions and audio files directly from a computer browser, and offers powerful live performance-oriented features for both creative arranging and performing of grooves.
Dusty DiMercurio, Digidesign’s personal studio products marketing manager, had this to say:
While Transfuser will be especially appealing to electronic musicians, it’s really ideal for pretty much anyone who works with loops, as it allows you to instantly reinvent them with totally unique results.
And in Digidesign style…
For a limited time through June 25, 2008, Digidesign is offering a free download of the Transfuser Preview to every Pro Tools|HD®, Pro Tools LE®, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ user. This free prerelease version of Transfuser is fully functional for three months, and enables all Pro Tools users to discover and experiment with the capabilities of Transfuser.
I must say that I really like this newfound attitude from Digidesign (similar approach was used for Structure and Eleven). People can argue about us being beta testers, and that they’re just trying to get us addicted to the plug-ins so we’ll buy them the day they’re released, but so what? What a great opportunity it is to try out the new plug-ins… And hey, if you get addicted to it, it’s probably good. I’ll give it a go today and let you know my first thoughts on it.

It’s really super cool, and there are a lot of things to like about it.
While “loop based” audio has indeed been used mainly by hip-hop and electronic musicians, the plugin can be used for so much more if you think creatively.

I’m gonna wait a while to try this one out. I’ve got a project I need to finish before I start messing around with new toys.

I’m not criticizing here, just asking: What are this products’ unique features? Guru and Ableton Live, Kontakt, Stylus, Reason… the number of loop manipulation softwares out there is seemingly endless.
Can someone tell me what the unique features of this product are? Why would someone need this? What distinguishes this or puts it out in front of the crowd?
I’m curious. Don’t want to download something that I don’t need, even if the trial is free.

That’s a perfectly valid question Chad! I don’t know if I can pick out anything extremely unique about it just like that (but I haven’t had my coffee yet, might be able to after I have
). I will post my thoughts on it later today. Need a little more time with it.

Digi says street price will be $295.
Sure it’s not the most unique snowflake, but none of that other software will integrate so well with Pro Tools. The step sequencer and the ability to process an audio input like shown in the video is pretty damn cool.
