Euphonix have for a while hinted about an ‘Artist series’ of controllers, something that have made many hope for an actual affordable controller from the high-end company. It seems like we through Sweetwater actually have gotten a sneak peak of it! The two products are called MC Control (at Sweetwater) and MC Mix (at Sweetwater). And guess what? They actually look pretty affordable!
Euphonix MC Control features:
* Customizable touchscreen interface (800 x 480 pixels)
* Eight touch-sensitive rotary encoders
* Four touch-sensitive motorized faders
* 12 assignable soft keys
* Transport controls and jog/shuttle/zoom wheel
* Studio Monitor Express software
* High-speed EuConâ„¢ Ethernet protocol
Priced at $1,499.99 at Sweetwater
Euphonix MC Mix features:
* Eight touch-sensitive motorized faders
* Eight touch-sensitive rotary encoders
* Eight high-resolution OLED displays (128 x 64 pixels)
* Transport controls
* High-speed EuConâ„¢ Ethernet protocol
Priced at $999.99 at Sweetwater
These thing looks like real winners, but the information doesn’t say anything about if you can run multiple units together or the support for other DAWs besides the EuCon protocol. Furthermore it doesn’t say anything about shipping date, however, rumors (and definitely just that and nothing more) say about 2-3 months.

Check your mail, the new Sweetwater SELECT catalog I got in the mail today
show the New Euphonix consoles. The catalog states up to 4 units can be connected
to create a larger, integrated control surface.
My spies tell me that you can run 3 MC Mix with 1 MC Control. The MC Control is set to ship on Jan 20, 2008 and the MC Mix is set to ship in March. No details yet on surround panners but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Great news Michael and Greg. Thanks a bunch.
The EuCon protocol offers support for all major DAWs including Nuendo, Pro Tools, Pyramix and Logic. EuCon is the tightest control protocol available and also offers HUI and Mackie control for all HUI/Mackie savvy applications. That pretty much covers any DAW out there.
The MC Control can be married with up to 3 MC Mix units to give 28 faders.
Thanks for checking in here Mark. I must say that it looks really good. Hopefully I’ll be able to review them once they arrive.
isn’t it strange that the jog wheel is on the right side in the control, or it’s just me?
Excellent. At last, an alternative to Mackie’s garbage. Too bad the Euphonix will not fit in my physical configuration.
Lampard,
You think? I think it’s to the right alongside the transport controls on all Digidesign control surfaces as well. The bigger D-Controls are a little different, but there’s so much things that needs to fit into them.
just looking at the pictures i have some comments on the feature set. the mc control doesnt have pan on the 4 channel strips, that’s not good. and to have 1 mc mix & 1 mc control setup could be okay i guess, but can they physically latch together (are there some connectors?) and more importantly who wants to have 2 ethernet cables running from their DAW to the systems? that would be a bit annoying and inflexible.
if this were wireless like my keyboard & mouse that would be ideal.
not to mention no winXP support, but im sure it’s coming along in the near future.
Michel, The MC Control has 8 rotary encoders, 4 of them probably maps to pan if you want them too.
While some seems to believe that Apple has stringed Euphonix like Apogee, I’m not really one of them. Euphonix should have many Windows users. Especially those running Nuendo.
im sure 4 of the 8 encoders could be mapped to pan, but having them away from the channel is unnatural. it would be best if they exactly matched the mc mix channel strip design and still retained the 8 encoders around the touchscreen.
also im still curious how having 2 ethernet cables on my DAW workstation wont clutter things to blazes. whats wrong with usb?
Michel, it’s unbelievable stupid that you would prefer usb over ethernet. Ethernet connectivity is superior in any way. Have you ever heard of ethernet switches/hubs? You can get one for $20. And heck, not being a consumer crap standard, you can even hook a wifi router if you need to go wireless.
Ethernet is much superior for controllers. There’s a reason for why you won’t find any higher end USB controllers. And yes, cables suck… But it’s worth it. And there would have to be cables for USB as well
