Roger Nichols Digital releases Spl-Izer

Spl_Izer.gif

This looks like an interesting product. “The Spl-izer is an adjustable 3 band 24db per octave FIR (Finite Impulse Response) frequency splitter that allows the three bands to be isolated and routed to aux or instrument tracks forn separate processing.”

So according to RND, this product will make it possible to turn a single band compressor into a multiband compressor, to split up reverb sounds, apply different effects to different frequencies of a signal.

New versions of Structure – LE and Free

Yep, ’tis true, you can now have Structure for free, or as a light version if that’s your cup of tea. There are of course limitations to these, and some rather odd ones as well. I can understand that the sample libraries are different, that the multitimbral support is limited (128, 8, 4), the polyphony (unlimited, 256, 64), or even the various outputs options. But limited MIDI learn? Limited number of Structure instances in a session? Ah well, I think both LE and Free will be very useful, but if you want a fullblown workstation that you could easily make an entire song with (if you can stand the interface), then you might want to look at the full version.

As you might know, the full version is listed at $499
The LE version only at $149
The Free version costs $599

Of course the free version is free… They are all good priced IMO.

MIDI Chunk List Error

Anyone experienced this? It seems to be a very rare error and I’ve been told Digidesign doesn’t even consider it a bug. I had one of these errors last night and the session was totally corrupted and couldn’t be opened today. Most of the backup sessions were corrupted as well and it wasn’t possible to import session from them either.

“Could not complete the Open Session… command because bad data encountered while translating MIDI Chunk List”

Anyone had this and lived to tell the story?

VirSyn announces REFLECT – the algorithmic reverb

REFLECTMed.gif

REFLECT is an algorithmic reverberation plugin which combines the flexibility of vintage algorithmic reverbs with the sonic quality of convolution based reverbs. The creation of high quality reverb needs a realistic simulation of the important early reflections together with a smooth and colorless reverberation tail. The early reflections are the most important clue for the human ear to get a feeling about the dimension and character of a room. Most algorithmic reverbs offer a number of different algorithms to simulate different natural rooms like chamber, halls or artificial ones like plates. REFLECT uses impulse responses from real acoustic spaces and classical reverb algorithms to emulate their acoustical properties.
